Disk Quotas
Students have 50 Megabytes of storage on the server. Once a student fills her quota, she will be unable to save anything, and will have problems with her account. Most students use about 5 MB of space, so 50 should be plenty.
- What do I do when I reach my quota, and have 50 Megabytes of stuff already saved?
- Throw some of it away. Look through the files in your home directory folder, especially the Documents folder, to find files you do not need.
- How do I throw away files on a Macintosh computer?
On a Macintosh computer, drag files to the Trash icon on the dock, then select "Empty Trash" from the Finder menu.
- How do I throw away files on a Windows computer?
On a Windows computer, right-click on a file, then select "Delete". Next, right-click on the Recylce Bin on the desktop, and select "Empty Recycle Bin."
- But I didn't save 50 MB of stuff! All I have is one little term paper!
- Hmm. By chance, did you plug your iPod into a school computer and let it sync? Look in your Music and Documents folders for music files. They're huge, and there is no reason for you to sync them to our computers or for us to store them on our servers.
- OK, I looked carefully, and there are no music files in my home directory. I've saved a lot of school work, though, and I really need more space. What do I do?
- See Mr. Tomlinson.
