2004 HSA Scores
The scores of Western students on Maryland's High School Assessments rose significantly last year. Recently-released data show dramatic gains in every area:
English
- 83.8% passed, a 30% increase from 2003.
- Western scored higher than every school in Baltimore County but one, and higher than every school in Howard County but two.
- In Baltimore City, only Poly and City College scored higher than Western.
Algebra
- 63.6% passed, a 14% increase from 2003.
- Western outperformed every Baltimore County school but Eastern Tech., and only 2 other County schools were even within 15 points of Western's pass rate.
- In Baltimore City, only Poly and City College scored higher than Western.
Biology
- 79.6% passed, a 30% increase from 2003.
- While a handful of schools in Baltimore and Howard Counties edged Western's rate, Western exceeded the average in Baltimore County (by 11 points) and in Howard County.
- In Baltimore City, Western's score was higher than all schools except Poly, City College, and School for the Arts.
Government
- 93.7% passed, a 3% increase from 2003.
- Western scored higher than every school in Baltimore and Howard Counties.
- In Baltimore City, Western's rate exceeded that of every school except Poly and City College.
