MSA English 2 Results
Eighty-six percent of last year's sophomores at Western passed the new English 2 portion of the Maryland School Assessment, a result that places Western among the top schools in the state.
Significant aspects of the newly-released data:
- Western's score was the highest of all Baltimore schools but one, our neighbor Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.
- Of over 300 high schools in Maryland, Western had the 8th-highest pass rate on the English 2 MSA.
- The only other schools to outperform Western were 3 in Montgomery County, 2 in Howard County (one higher by only 3/10ths of one percent) and 1 in Frederick County.
- A Sun article ("In Md., 40% fail test in English", 11/11/05) notes the "wide disparity in achievement between the highest-performing schools, often in wealthy areas, and dismal results elsewhere." However, Western's score was higher than that of EVERY school in nearby and wealthier Baltimore, Harford, Carroll, and Anne Arundel counties.
-
Western's pass rate of 86% dramatically exceeds school averages in:
- Baltimore City: 34.6%
- State of Maryland: 57.4%
- Anne Arundel County: 60.6%
- Baltimore County: 52.2%
- Carroll County: 71.4%
- Frederick County: 67.1%
- Harford County: 64.4%
- Howard County: 76.6%
Congratulations to Western's students and staff!
