On Friday, June 3, 2005, supporters of Western gathered at the Hippodrome Theatre for a gala reception before the evening's performance of the Lion King. The event culminated a year-long benefit drive for the newly established Western High School Fund, which will support Western's academic programs and students.
Alumnae, former faculty, students, faculty, BCPSS administrators, and community members enjoyed the dessert reception on the mezzanine of the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. Attendees included Dr. Patricia Schmoke, Honorary Chair of the campaign and WHS alumna, BCPSS CEO Dr. Bonnie Copeland and High School Area Office Frank DeStefano, and Wanda Watts, Western alumna and Director of Community Outreach for City Council President Sheila Dixon.
The Lion King fundraiser earned $10,000 for the new Western High School Fund. This Fund seeks to support Western by enhancing academic resources and providing student scholarships, enabling Western to continue its proud heritage of educational excellence for Baltimore's young women. Organizers also plan for the establishment of a foundation to enhance contacts between Western alumnae and the school.
Alumnae and supporters may invest in Western's future by making contributions to:
