On the evening of October 13, author Ilana DeBare (Where Girls Come First: The Rise, Fall, and Surprising Revival of Girls' Schools), explored the history and status of all-girls schools in an appearance here at Western High School, the oldest all-girls public high school in the nation.
Ms. Debare was introduced by Whitney Ransome, Co-Executive Director of The National Coalition of Girls' Schools. Ms. Ransome has played a key role in the renaissance girls' schools have enjoyed over the past decade and a half.
Before Ms. DeBare's talk, Western Junior Brittany Coombs read her own essay describing the significance of the all-girls environment of Western to her education.
