Blue Ribbon School Honorable Mention

  ribbon

The Maryland State Department of Education named Western an Honorable Mention School in its 2002 Blue Ribbon Schools Program. The Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools Program is part of the National Blue Ribbon Schools honors program, both of which recognize superior accomplishments in student achievement, instruction, school organization and culture, parent and community involvement, professional development opportunities and leadership.

While Western was not chosen as Baltimore City's Blue Ribbon school this year (an honor earned by our neighbor, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute), we are pleased to be named an Honorable Mention School. This award was made only to selected schools among the applicants.

The application process for the Blue Ribbon Schools Program is lengthy and requires extensive collection of data and other documentation. A team of Western staff worked on Western's application for several months.

Western will be honored at the Blue Ribbon Schools Gala on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2002 at Martin's West. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a processional, followed by dinner at 7:15 and the awards presentation at 8:00. Parents, students, staff, and alumnae are invited to attend as part of Western's delegation. If you are a member of the Western family and would like to help represent Western at this event, please contact the school (410-396-7040) for further information.
