- The 2008-2009 school year begins for all students on Monday, August 25, 2008.

- Sign-up for Fall Athletics will be held on Thursday August 14th, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.
- Summer reading assignments for all Western students, including incoming 9th graders, are posted on the English Department page.

- Western bid farewell to the Class of 2008 on May 23 in a traditional Western assembly.
- Tunisia Ellis '09 and Gabrielle Thomas '09 have been accepted into the Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology's Internship Program in Brain Sciences.
- Our main entrance area receives a complete new look!
- Western students attend the Baltimore Opera Company's Romeo et Juliet as a part of BOC's Opera in the Curriculum initiative.
- Ellen Blonder '08, Samea Shanori '08, and Kelly Monroe '11 earned medals at the 2008 Maryland Olympiada of Spoken Russian.
- Four Western students of Russian were honored in the National Russian Essay Contest this year: Neikita Jackson '09 (Gold Medal), Melissa Harrington '09 (Silver Medal) and Joy Neal '09 (Silver Medal), and Kara Hughes '09 (Honorable Mention).
- Five Western students were named winners in the Morgan State University Science Fair.
- Eighteen students from Western joined The Cardin School on its interim week Civil Rights Journey. The group visited Atlanta, Montgomery, Birmingham, and Memphis, learning about the struggle for equal rights. Two veteran activists of the Civil Rights movement addressed the students, who were accompanied by Western teacher Judy Frumkin and counselor Monteece Jones. A cover story in the April 4, 2008 Jewish Times featured the experience.
- The Western High School Marching Band makes a special appearance at the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra's performance of "By George! By Ira! By Gershwin!" on April 12, 2008 at the Chesapeake Arts Center in Brooklyn Park.
- The March 26th, 2008 edition of the Baltimore Sun's "Winter Varsity All-Metro" picked Western High School junior Akeema Richards for its First Team in the Varsity All-Metro Girls Basketball poll. She is one of nine basketball players selected from the region's high schools. Additionally, freshman Brinae Robinson was selected for second team ranking on the Varsity All-Metro Girls Track. The Western Track Team was selected 5th of the 10 high school track teams selected for the final poll.
- Artwork by Western math teacher Teresa Palomar is featured in a juried exhibition at the Towson Arts Collective, 410 York Road, Towson, through April 12, with a reception on March 7, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
- A schoolwide program on February 28, 2008 celebrated Black History Month at Western.
- Western Robotics team participates in FIRST Robotics Play Day.
- Western is the recipient of a $6,000.00 Program Growth Grant from NASA. NASA’s Regional Challenge grant provides funding for first year high school robotics teams. The funds will cover registration costs for the FIRST Chesapeake Regional Robotics Competition to be held March 13-15 in Annapolis, MD as well partial costs of constructing the robot.
- Western's all-female, rookie Robotics Team swept the Baltimore City Public Schools Robotic VEX Competition at Morgan State University on December 13th to win five trophies, including Champion Robot Alliance and the Rookie All-Star Award.
- Parents of Western students are invited to our newly-formed 9th & 10th Grade Parent Support & Networking Group.
- Western honors the Junior Class of 2009 on November 9, 2007.
- Chemistry students perform the "Mentos Experiment".
- We invite interested 7th and 8th graders and their parents/guardians to Open House on November 1 (6-8 p.m.) to explore Western and meet students and staff.
- Western's Outward Bound Club went on a 5-day hiking/backpacking and camping trip from October 2–6th.
- Western inaugurates the Senior Class of 2008 on September 27, 2007.
- Paintings by math teacher Teresa Palomar are featured in the Fall Exhibition at the Three Arts Club of Homeland, 4 Wyndhurst Ave. near Charles St. Hours are by appointment only, M-F, 10-3.
- Ashley Hill, '08, was named an American Council of Teachers of Russian Scholar Laureate for 2007. A student of Western teacher James Sweigert, Ashley was one of 57 students nationwide to receive this honor.
- The Western family—students, parents, staff, alumnae—is invited to the Western Family Picnic on September 29.
- School opens for all students on Monday, August 27, 2007. All students should have received Principal Matthews' back-to-school letter by August 17.
- Battelle awards $5,000 grant for technology to Western.
- Welcome to new teachers Paul Atkinson (Mathematics), Jeremy Jones (Science), Margaret Lewis (Science), and Casey McConnell (English).
- The Summer Bridge Program for incoming 9th graders will be from August 6th-17th.

- Western bids farewell to veteran staff Pearl Ewing, Deborah Gilbert, Rosalind Gittings, and Timothy Nadrowski, all retiring after many years of dedicated service to Western and Baltimore City Public Schools.
