FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- WHAT IS THE WESTERN HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION, INC (WHSAA)?
- The Western High School Alumnae Association was formed to support the preservation of Western High School, the oldest all girls' public high school in the United States. The Western High School Alumnae Association was originally organized in 1899. Henrietta Szold was the first president. The first meeting was held on January 18, 1900 and the first annual meeting was held on May 7, 1900. The first Association actively reigned for 45 years; however Western did not have an active alumnae association from 1945-1986. In 1986, WHSAA was reactivated and incorporated as a 501c3 non-profit membership organization.
- HOW CAN I JOIN WHSAA?
- All Western High School graduates are eligible for membership in the Association. Graduating seniors are inducted into the Association during Commencement Exercise in June. Upon graduation, seniors have one (1) free year of membership.
- HOW ARE MY DUES USED?
- Dues are $20.00 each year. Dues help to defray the costs of scholarships, printing, postage, supplies, equipment, software, maintenance and other related costs of running the Association. The fiscal year for WHSAA is July 1 to June 30.
- WHEN/WHERE DO YOU MEET?
- The Association holds two annual meetings each year (Fall and Spring). The Executive Board meets monthly. Committees are asked to meet once a month.
- DO YOU PLAN CLASS REUNIONS?
- No, the Association does not plan class reunions. The Association will provide classes with a guide on how to plan a successful class reunion, a listing of class members in the database, and use of the bulk mail permit. Classes may also use our tax-exempt number when purchasing items for the reunion. When using the tax-exempt number, classes must donate at least $100 towards the Association's Scholarship fund. The money donated will be awarded during Commencement under the name of donating class.
